Open to God’s In-Breaking: An Advent Weekend of Contemplative Prayer

December 4 @ 12:00 am - December 6 @ 12:00 am

The awe and anticipation of the Advent season invite us into a hushed expectation of Divine birthing of the Word in our own hearts and lives. We hear stories during this time of deep listening: that of Mary, Joseph and the shepherds to angelic visitation, Elizabeth to the child in her womb, and Wise Men to the signs written in the heavens. As events beyond all telling break into their lives, they are changed, transformed by light, mystery and joy, all the while pondering these things in their hearts. Although a busy season, it is a holy season, and so you are invited to this quiet weekend in which we will allow our own ponderings and anticipation of God’s in-breaking to be opened up and welcomed through contemplative practice. These practices will include centering prayer, Lectio Divina and other prayer experiences. This will be a silent retreat, one of going inward to hear the still, small voice of God’s grace in the heart, inviting us to receive and bring forth anew the gift of the Christ Child in our own lives. There will be time for both solitude and whole group experience. Spiritual direction will also be offered during the weekend. We will have several centering prayer periods each day, and this retreat is open to both the experienced and beginner in this form of prayer. We can take this precious set-apart time to invite in Christmas in a special way by our gift of contemplative presence during the time of sacred waiting. Guided by Amy Kulesa.

Please note that this is a silent retreat. Check-in times for lodging rooms begin at 3pm. The retreat will begin after dinner.

Amy Kulesa serves as the Director of Associates for the Sisters of Bon Secours, USA. She earned a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary and an Master of Social Work in clinical social work practice from Rutgers University.
