Storytelling meets spiritual map-making at Prairiewoods’ extraordinary online event Spirituality in the 21^st Century: Spirituality & Stories of the Land. Mapping our place within the web of creation enfolds us in the 13.7-billion-year journey of the universe. Come explore our place in the Universe Story and the wider “We.” This two-day online event, April 29–30, features Zuni farmer and CEO of Colorado Plateau Foundation Jim Enote and musician-of-Earth Sara Thomsen live via Zoom.

As former director of the A:shiwi A:wan Museum and Heritage Center, Jim worked with Zuni artists to create maps that give voice to the land’s own stories, showing how we are embedded in creation’s story in ways mysterious and profound. The A:shiwi have been in present-day North America for thousands of years. Their sacred lands are marked by trails of prayer, story and song, carried along by canyon, river and rain. With a voice rich as the best mid-west soil, Sara’s songs carry us inward and outward—in, to the particulars of our own lives, and out—into the shared humanity of us all. Her performance style is easygoing and full of humor and depth, capturing the audience’s engagement. Sara’s music gently enfolds and unfolds the listener. She has released six solo albums. Drawing on a kaleidoscopic breadth of ancestral wisdom, Jim and Sara will share their deep love of the land’s precious stories in this two-day online retreat hosted by Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center. While creation is unfolding her mysteries in human hearts, Western notions of place and home are challenged, and our groundedness in the wider “We” emerges. This is the time of the Great Turning, when we must learn from our elders how Earth’s own stories attune us to spiritual insights about our communal origin, destiny and the complex interdependence that connects us with all our relations.
