Six historical buildings in northern Italy
Six historical buildings in Italy
Setting
The property (year 1668) is situated in the medieval village of Canei in the Italian Alps (community of Crevoladossola), 10 minutes north of the city of Domodossola, 45 minutes from Malpensa airport (Milan). The village rests on a forested hill, surrounded by chestnut trees, and on either side flows a stream, the view on the surrounding mountains is spectacular.
Construction
All buildings have massive stone walls. All stone roofs have been restored. For the renovation of the main house and the guest cottage, the old construction method, as well as use of the local materials (granite, marble, larch beams) have been retained.
Restored buildings
The principal house “Casa Venturini” is referred by many people as the most beautiful house in the region. It offers an attractive combined living room and kitchen on the ground floor with a large baking oven, a chimney with a heating unit, and an antique stone floor. The sitting room has a modern pellet oven as well as a chimney. Next to the WC/shower a stairway leads up to a gallery. On the upper floor is a comfortable WC/bath, with and attractive granite sink and floor. The spacious bedroom has large windows with antique marble columns in front. It has a covered balcony. This upper level can also be entered via a charming arched bridge. The house is completely accessed by electricity, warm and cold water, and central heating. It has its own sewage plant. The basement has a large arched wine-cellar, as well as 2 dry (storage) cellars. The usable surface for all 3 levels (including cellars) is 198 m2.
The guest cottage “Casetta” has a bedroom on the upper level with 2 beds and a Swedish oven. Under the bedroom is the romantic Grotto, with its double-arched ceiling. An excellent wine-cellar is on the ground floor. The guest cottage has a surface of about 36 m2 (including grotto and cellar).
Unrestored buildings
The second house “Casa Airami” has 3 rooms and a corridor on the ground level; on the upper floor the spacious living room (26 m2) has a magnificent view of the valley and the city of Domodossola. The large cellar (23 m2) has a working fireplace. Total surface ca. 98 m2.
A connecting room joins both main houses, Venturini and Airami, surface ca. 10m2.
3 additional (agricultural) buildings: “Casa Lunghi” has 2 floors with 31 m2 each (total 62 m2), the “Casa Calcini” also has two floors, 20 m2 each (total 40 m2). The goat-stable has one room and a cellar (total 20m2).
The inner courtyard, with its many angles, lays between the main buildings; 2 massive antique granite tables stand within, and in front of the grotto is a functionable antique pizza oven.
The large sun terrace offers a lovely view on the valley of Domodossola. A persimmon tree provides shade and lots of fruit.
All the buildings offer about 460 m2 of space (including Grotto and cellars), room for 14 – 20 guests would be possible.
